Hence when the BBC ran the story of a pensioner needing to fund her sight-saving medical treatment out of her own savings because the NHS would not, while the Prime Minister's sight was saved without him having to contribute a penny, it became clear that the PM had made this a personal issue that was fair game to be attacked.
