Inequalities of care
Like many optometrists, I read the journals to see what our professional bodies are doing and wonder about the impact their efforts will have on my everyday life. This is more relevant in the current climate with the GOS review under way and the announcement of the results of the pilot eye-care pathways at the start of next year.
Imagine my concern then when I read in one of our journals the comments made by Kevin Barron MP, chair of the Health Select Committee. The article quotes him as saying, 'The General Ophthalmic Service in the UK is a jewel in the crown of the NHS. NHS patients and private patients have access to the same standard of care.'
