At the risk of sounding like a broken record, I am going to share yet another cautionary cosmetic contact lens tale http://www.healthzone.ca/health/newsfeatures/article/1092120--a-cautionary-contact-lens-tale this time from Canada. It concerns a teenager who wore some 'Angelic Blue' cosmetic contact lenses for a mere four hours when one of his eyes started to water. On removal of the lens he felt excruciating pain. It is the next line that makes me wince: 'No wonder. Removing the lens peeled off the epithelial surface of his cornea'. The corneal abrasion took two months to heal. This just goes to show that if anyone thinks the eye care profession is being a bit fussy about tightening up the supply of contact lenses, there is good reason to ensure contact lenses fit and are fit for purpose.
