As the countdown to the Olympics gets started in earnest Optician keenly awaits the activity planned by the optical business. Getting hold of tickets in no easy task and, if has been the reported, the BBC needed 250 staff to cover the 'one year to go' bunfight there may well not be any tickets ( or hotel rooms) left for the general public once the Beeb has had its fill of tickets to cover the event.
Last weekend I had the pleasure of attending the closing stage of the Tour de France and it brought home to me just how a sporting event can capture the public imagination. If London 2012 can capture a fraction of the party atmosphere the TdF captured in Paris it will be a force to be rockoned with.
However with so many people moaning about having not secured tickets it will be interesting to see if it can still have that effect.
If all of the tickets are going to corporate sponsors can optics hope to benefit? Given the new bribery Act will customer of sponsors want to accept. I'll keep you posted. Needless to say swanky corporate hospitality cannot sway this member of Her Majesty's Press.
