There’s been a bit of chat in the office about compliance – or lack of – of late, but this latest news story is perhaps one of the worst cases of contact lens misuse I’ve read about in some time.
Consumers often admit to stretching their contact lens wear past the recommended lens wear times, but in Taiwan a young college student is reported to have worn her monthly lenses for six months without taking them out at all in that time. It was also reported that she used dirty water to clean her face, so it was hardly surprising that when, after experiencing acute pain in her eyes, she went to an eye specialist and Acanthamoeba keratitis was found.
