The argumentative drone of business versus clinical has persisted in optic's collective ear for many years.
This ethical tinnitus has, outwardly, polarised the profession but the briefest time spent meeting practitioners reveals that the issue is not as cut and dried as some would have you believe. The characterisation of those working in the corporate sector as uncaring, money grabbing chancers is as arcane and inaccurate as the opposing view of white coated types conducting slow consultations in poorly equipped practices on people who, do not require them and end up paying through the nose for their trouble.
What this all boils down to is self-validation. People like to believe that they are doing the right thing. Choosing one method of practice over another is akin to open voting, everyone can see where you stand and assume they know what you believe. Once arguments within the profession emerge, remember tinnitus come from within the body, things are exacerbated. You have to defend your position to show you have made the right choice -- the mud starts to fly.
