Simon Jones: I may have been wrong about smart glasses

This may not come as a surprise to many of you, but I’ve always been something of a cynic when it comes to smart eyewear. Well over a decade of near misses, ‘next big things’ and poorly implemented products has led me to the conclusion that the concept isn’t really for me. Call me a Luddite, old fashioned, whatever you want, but I’m yet to see a use case that I think will benefit my day-to-day life.  

At Transitions Academy in Orlando recently, I had the chance to see clips of Sadi Taylor (@sadi.theblindlady), who documents life with sight loss and autism on TikTok. Taylor had been using Ray-Ban Meta’s artificial intelligence functionality to bring a new layer of accessibility into her life.
