The Outside Clinic replies

Letters
A letter from the March 1 2011 issue

? Mr Belson should inform himself of the current regulations before suggesting The Outside Clinic has done anything improper in examining this patient.

A patient is entitled to a domiciliary eye test if they are 'unable to attend a practice unaccompanied (for reasons of physical or mental ill health or disability).' So as Mr Belson clearly states the patient attended his practice 'with the assistance of her daughter' it would suggest that she would be entitled to a domiciliary visit.

Where would the optical health and spectacle needs of our elderly population be if all the patients had to rely on a family member/advocate to transport them into a high street practice? Some may wish to attend their local practice, while others choose to be seen at home and are quite rightly entitled to be given that service as long as they meet the GOS criteria.
