I've latterly been following a good rub and rinse procedure, mainly because it seems to improve comfort towards the end of my monthly silicone hydrogel (SiH) lenses' life span and here is a strong argument for doing so with soft lenses (including SiHs) before soaking them. http://www.news-medical.net/news/20110802/To-eliminate-germs-in-contact-lens-rub-and-rinse-works-best.aspx Just published in Optometry and Vision Science is this research which shows the rub and rinse step eliminated the most micro-organisms, especially with SiHs. Rub and rinse was also found to be the most effective technique with all multipurpose disinfection solutions tested, including those marketed as 'no rub'. 'Rinse only' was less effective and, not surprisingly, more microorganisms remained on the lenses with the 'no rub no rinse' technique. It only takes a matter of seconds, but it's time well spent, it would seem.
