Having highlighted in previous Verum columns the need for the optical profession to have a greater understanding of our current manpower situation, I am delighted to see some action at last being taken

Having highlighted in previous Verum columns the need for the optical profession to have a greater understanding of our current manpower situation, I am delighted to see some action at last being taken.  The various optical bodies are to endeavour to gather information about current optometrist numbers and also issues that will affect numbers in the future.   All credit to The College for leading this piece of work which is long overdue and will answer questions such as whether another optometry course is required, ( I suspect not),  and whether we have numbers to meet aspirations of a greater role in primary care.  At least if a problem is identified the answer may be in our hands.
