Why is RNIB not working with the whole profession?

AIO has noted with some concern the new RNIB relationship with Specsavers. Whilst the concept of such a highly respected organisation as RNIB getting involved in promoting eye health care with a view to preventing eye disease is to be warmly welcomed, surely they should be looking to engage with the whole profession.

There is good work going on up and down the country with LOCs engaging with CCGs to try and build sensible referral pathways with optometrists routinely acting as primary care providers.

This is clear common sense in so far as it leverages the excellent skills that optometrists possess and saves the NHS a lot of money.
