View from the High Street: Get ready for change because it’s coming

Last month, along with over 2,000 other colleagues, I attended the annual Professional Advancement Conference in Birmingham. The day was packed full of lectures, peer discussions, and clinical workshops, with plenty of CET available for all of the different optical professionals.

The day started with an introductory lecture from Professor Harry Weisinger, Specsavers global director of professional services. Harry is a practicing GP and optometrist and his lecture was titled ‘Transforming Eye Health’. He highlighted the extensive work of the profession over the past few years to develop the range of clinical services we provide, and the link to increased optometrist job satisfaction through doing so.
