Where do we stand on free eye exams?

I would like to use your Letters page to pose an open question to our professional bodies. I want to know what their guidelines are on free eye examinations that are linked to the purchase of spectacles. There seems to be confusion about whether or not this breaks GOC code of conduct/guidelines.

The other scenario which I would like to pose to the same bodies is if a practice or group offer universal, free eye examinations (irrespective of purchase of product) what is their recommendation/guidelines on claiming if the patient is entitled to an NHS eye examination. Moreover, what is the position on claiming, a GOS(3) voucher?
