Interview: Franco Ferrante, MD Luxottica North Europe

Business
Franco Ferrante has been working for Luxottica Group, the Italian frames giant due to merge with Essilor later this year, for more than a decade. Now based in London after working across Europe for the optical giant, Ferrante shares with Optician the inspiration behind launching Ray-Ban prescription lenses, latest trends and its wider market plans. Chris Bennett reports

Chris Bennett How did the idea of Ray-Ban prescriptions lenses come about?

Franco Ferrante Marrying innovative lens technology with frame design has been at the core of our brand for decades. In 2017, we’re going one step further, offering lenses that allow Ray-Ban lovers to combine the style they love with the prescription they need. Each pair of Ray-Bans can now be made unique to its owner.

CB Why should practices choose Ray-Ban prescription rather than get their current lens supplier to glaze the frame?

FF Our new lenses guarantee better vision, thanks to Digital Surface Technology (DST). This pioneering process has enabled us to create certified high-quality lenses that push the boundaries of optics technology. Digitally built lenses are tailor-made to your customer’s specific vision correction requirements, providing clearer vision and alleviating eye strain.
