Lidl investigated by GOC

The GOC has launched an investigation into illegal practice at Lidl

The General Optical Council has launched an investigation into illegal practice at Lidl, following the sale of multifocal reading glasses at the supermarket.

Optician has learned that Lidl is selling the spectacles under the Auriol Eyewear brand, which provides three focal areas with smooth transitions across low, medium and high diopters.

The GOC is now investigating whether or not Lidl has breached the legal requirements of the sale of optical appliances as detailed in part four of the Opticians Act.

A spokesperson for the GOC told Optician: “We take all illegal practice cases seriously and will act on any information provided by the public in line with our protocol.”
