The General Optical Council's (GOC) renewed focus on investigating online contact lens sales (News 05.08.11) has been the subject of criticism from a prominent industry figure.
Ron Hamilton, who is claimed to be the original inventor of the daily disposable contact lens, has embarked on a war of words with the GOC over its alleged lines of enquiry into the offshore sale of Daysoft contact lenses.
Hamilton, executive chairman of Daysoft, forwarded Optician a ping-pong exchange of emails with the GOC about whether the company was selling contact lenses to legal standards.
'I think the GOC is conducting a witch-hunt and confusing protecting the public with protecting opticians,' Hamilton said.
