Hakim Group practice Daybell and Choo Opticians in Sheffield has given free eye tests and glasses to children affected by the Chernobyl disaster.
Organised by the Sheffield link of charity Chernobyl Children’s Lifeline, six girls from Belarus have been staying with host families for a month.
Optometrist Simon Mann said: ‘We’re aware that the children do not get regular eye examinations at home, so for us to provide for them and help them see clearly is such an incredible thing to be a part of. The whole trip is such a wonderful experience for them and I hope we’ve provided a service that can benefit them for the rest of their lives.’
Chair of CCLL Sheffield Link Ben Dean added: ‘In the past we've had reports of amazing progress being made by the children, simply because they can read the information on the board.’
