Alongside the facts and figures presented at this spring's European Sunglass Association meeting was a whirlwind tour through up and coming trends in eyewear design from
Sandrine Maggiani from Style Sight. She outlined four Megatrends for 2014 under the headings: Rational, Real, Creed and Eden and how these related to eyewear.

Rational is a trend that reflects the fascination designers and architects have with mathematical functions and formula in nature and the golden ratio. The look is minimal with colours centred on mineral tones of greys, greens, pearl pinks rust and henna. Rational can take its finish cues from leaf structure, shells, pleating, futuristic exoskeletons and lattices. Textures are liquid metals. For women's eyewear this is expressed through white acetate and dark lenses alternatively translucent, textured plastics with tinted lenses. 'For men it's all about the aviator,' says Maggiani. Opaque lenses and 3D robotic silhouettes.
