High minus lenses, due to the thickening of their edges, pose challenges for the dispensing optician. Some lenses cannot be fitted into certain frames without first modifying their edges. The barrel housing (the housing that surrounds the screw shaft) of metal frames, for either the eyewire (Figure 1) or the temple (Figure 10), if positioned too close to the lens has the potential to obstruct the lens placement.
