The director of professional standards and operations at Boots Opticians, Eddie Watson, outlines the company’s expansion plans and crossover into more general healthcare

Walking along the lengthy corridors of the Grade II-listed 1960s building you come across an in-office Boots Opticians for staff, a subsidised gym, and a 19th century pharmacy dispensary as a reminder of its pharmaceutical history.

For Eddie Watson, director of professional standards and operations of Boots Opticians since January 2104, health is at the forefront company-wide as optometrists, pharmacists and hearing care professionals increasingly work together.

Watson has spent 28 years at Boots Opticians, working as an optometrist in Sheffield, then Leeds, before becoming practice manager of East Kilbride, then Glasgow. His wife Linda, whom he met studying at Glasgow Caledonian University, is also a Boots optometrist, at the Ayr practice.
