Echoes of the Past: The right to sell spectacles

The journal’s news pages are the focus this week. One particularly interesting report stemmed from US ophthalmologist Christopher Wood and his belief that ophthalmologists should be prohibited from selling frames on ethical grounds.

Wood wrote a letter to an ophthalmology journal stating that in 1962, half of ophthalmologists in the US were involved in the business of selling glasses and were motivated by avarice.
