In the third instalment of his series on practice management, David Samuel turns his attention to how optical practices can create patient loyalty

Once you have attracted patients, how do you keep them?

Looking through my stash of retail loyalty cards this morning I can count at least eight, that is excluding the ones that are in the sock drawer, the kitchen drawer and the glove box in the car. Anything from the typical supermarket cards, my local garden centre, and the Monkey Brew House (local craft beer pub) to name just a few.

The question posed by this is ‘why’? Why do these retailers spend so much effort to get us using their loyalty schemes? Furthermore, if every retailer has a loyalty scheme (I have Waitrose, Sainsbury’s and Tesco Club Card) what has it got to do with loyalty at all?
