Looking at labs: Silhouette’s special Linz lab

Nobody knows the intricacies of Silhouette rimless frames better than the company itself. For many years, the relationship between lens suppliers and frame suppliers has been based on the two not knowing the full parameters of each other’s products. But that is about to change.

In February 2017, Silhouette achieved a milestone in its 50-year-plus history with the opening of the €10m Vision Sensation laboratory at its headquarters in Linz, Austria. The aim was to remove the unknown element from previous glazing models and replace it with a tailored vision solution. The correct base lenses for the curvature of the frame – something that opticians do not always manage.
