Optical associations are not an endangered species but, it was mooted, some of those they represent may well be.
Last week’s OC Conference created a great opportunity for its member organisations to participate in a wider discussion and hold their own annual general meetings.
There’s a delicious irony that the chairman of the OC can joke about the counter-intuitive nature of forming another organisation in a profession already oversupplied with organisations.
Delivered as it was in the mellifluous tones of Don Grocott the 100-strong audience took the gently-barbed comment on the chin.
Since its inception in 2010 the OC has made a difference, Grocott told delegates in his opening address, a sentiment echoed by the afternoon’s headline act Lord Howe, Under Secretary of State for Health.
