An 18-year-old Caucasian female student attended an eye examination after suddenly noticing constantly blurred central vision in her left eye. She had been aware of a dark area in her visual field of the left eye for about three weeks. There were no other visual symptoms, her right eye was unaffected and she was generally well with no health problems or prescribed medications. There was no relevant personal or family ocular history.
