Seeing louder and clearer

Bill Harvey learns of the impressive new functionality of OrCam MyEye 2

Way back in the ‘before days,’ I was lucky enough to have a closer look at what was then the latest incarnation of the award-winning OrCam device called the OrCam MyEye 2 (see Optician 23.08.19). The device looked like a medium-sized data memory pen, supplied along with a neck cord and a frame with mounting magnets, though any frame with a suitable width of side is able to be adapted easily for use (figure 1).

As well as an impressive ability to read out text to the wearer, the lightweight and hands-free OrCam MyEye 2 boasted a number of other useful functions. When discussing these with the OrCam team, it was clear at the time that there was plenty of design research under way and I was told to look out for some major new developments to come. So, I was pleased to hear recently of the new OrCam MyEye Pro, which boasts all the functionality of its predecessor along with two exciting new features I cannot wait to try out.
