New software rolled out for Orcam Myeye digital low vision aid

Coinciding with National Eye Health Week, the developers of the Orcam Myeye digital low vision aid, Orcam Technologies, have rolled out new software that extends the functionality of the device.

The eighth iteration of the software means that the Myeye now features enhanced facial recognition that can now distinguish between men, women, and children, improving on the capability of the previous version that described everyone as a 'person.’

Improved colour identification now tells the user the colour of the items the device is viewing and the device can now automatically read a printed page without the need to point at the page or press a trigger button, reading hands free three seconds after the text appears in front of the device.

The OrCam MyEye smart camera sits on a side of a pair of glasses and uses optical character reading to read printed materials in real-time.
