Sight Care puts GOS in the past

Sight Care Group chief executive Paul Surridge says independent practices should focus on developing successful business models for the future rather than being consumed by GOS fee negotiations

Firstly may I say that the AIO (Association for Independent Optometrists and Dispensing Opticians) has done a great job of raising their profile in recent years attempting to tackle a number of thorny issues that have been a source of irritation for decades for many in the profession.

My concern is that the issues in question lie in the past, and not in the future. I see a parallel with the leadership campaign recently fought in the Labour party and the policies of Jeremy Corbyn. There’s no doubt he’s stirred up emotion and a healthy following of Labour voters, but questions have to be asked as to whether his policies are right for 21st century Britain, and even if they are, what chance would the Labour party under his leadership have of convincing the wider electorate to vote for them?
