The International Society for Low Vision Research and Rehabilitation has announced that the latest of the triennial conference series will take place in New York, from July 12-16 1999, and will be hosted by the city's eye care practitioner training body, Lighthouse International. Other topics for debate include: ageing and vision; epidemiology of vision impairment; latest treatments and technological advances in: glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration and cataracts; training around the world; and vision rehabilitation service models. The conference will also give companies a chance to showcase innovations in vision rehabilitation services and visit local vision rehabilitation agencies. A special one-day course on technology is scheduled. Dr Barbara Silverstone, president of Lighthouse International, said: 'We expect to draw more than 1,000 leading eye-care and vision-rehabilitation professionals for what is the world's foremost conference on low vision.' Speakers at the conference include Dr Carl Kupfer, founder and director of the National Eye Institute (US), and Bjorn Thylefors, director of the WHO's programme for the Prevention of Blindness and Deafness.
