Alcon has re-opened its UK distribution centre following the December 2005 Buncefield Oil Depot explosion.
The company invited Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning and the Worshipful Mayor of the Borough of Dacorum Councillor Catherine Appleby to open the rebuilt warehouse this month. Alcon UK MD Niven Smith praised the dedication and commitment of those who enabled the company to achieve re-occupation within 12 months and also the tenacity of warehouse staff who were temporarily deployed to alternative facilities.
Dave Malenfant, director of Alcon's global supply chain, said: 'One of the main objectives was to ensure customers did not suffer any disruption, especially to cataract surgery waiting lists and this was accomplished by a tremendous effort from dedicated Alcon staff.'
