Essilor has equipped an ophthalmic dispensing teaching room at the Cambridge-based university as part of its support for the department which runs a number of dispensing, optometry and postgraduate courses.
Andy Hepworth, Essilor professional relations manager, and a former dispensing student at APU said the room had so far been equipped with 12 manual focimeters, six ultraviolet lamps 12 presbyopia demonstration kits and pupillometers for the students to use along with a number of CD-based teaching tools.
At the opening of the clinic Professor Adrian Moore, deputy dean of APU's School of Applied Sciences, said maintaining links with industry was very important. 'We don't see optics as a theoretical subject. We can't prepare people for the world of work if they don't get access to the kind of equipment used in the world of work.'
