Dr Scott Mackie accepted the award for the Scottish Health Awards 2019’s Optometrist Category at the Edinburgh Corn Exchange on November 14.
Nominated by patients, Dr Mackie was awarded for his clinical excellence and empathy for Scottish NHS patients.
The award was presented by Scottish cabinet secretary for health and sport, Jeane Freeman, and was followed by a comment from one of Dr Mackie’s patients, who has incomplete chromatopsia and type-two tone cone dystrophy.
His patient said: ‘Perhaps the most valuable thing that Dr Mackie has provided me with is the unwavering support that allows me to speak out for myself today. I now have the confidence and self-assured nature to speak up when I’m struggling with my vision.’
