Awarded for services to the advancement of opticians

ABDO's Hamblin Memorial Prize has been awarded to Scott Mackie at 100% Optical for exceptional service to the advancement of opticians.

Dispensing optician and optometrist Mackie (pictured right, by Les Thomas) has contributed to professional developments throughout his career, including setting up a CET course with Eyecare 3000 to train both DOs and optometrists in his final year at Glasgow Caledonian University; working on ABDOs National Clinical Committee; and being appointed CPD lead for the General Optical Council and through the Education Strategic Review process.

On receiving his award, Mackie said: ‘This prestigious award has been won by many people in the past whom I admire professionally, and I am delighted to accept this award for my part in providing CPD and promoting the value of dispensing opticians. In particular, the synergy of working alongside optometry colleagues to provide person-centred patient care.’
