Made from nickel silver, the frames feature rounded endtips and spring hinges for comfort and safety. The range, in colour options designed to appeal to the UK market, is divided into two, to cater for the nursery to seven year-old age range and separately the seven to 11 year-olds. Frames for the younger wearer come in two colours: matt gold and matt gold with a demi-amber rim. The classic Barbie heart logo has been positioned on the temple and all frames in this range come in a pencil-case-like carrying case. The second range for the older wearer features a more discreet logo with satin colours such as blue, purple, brown, grey and dark silver. A Filofax-like case is included with each purchase which contains a frame case, mirror and cleaning cloth inside. 'We have undertaken a vox pop based on what four to 10 year-olds actually want from their frames. This has been translated into the design. Don't expect to see little pink frames,' says Brulimar's managing director, Howard Librae. 'Today's parents shudder at the memory of the old blue and pink NHS frames and the stigma that was attached to wearing glasses back then. Today we find that thanks to eyewear branded with popular and fun characters such as Barbie, children are more likely to accept the fact they have to wear them.' A number of different Barbie case designs may also be bought separately from Brulimar. A range of point-of-sale materials, including Barbie heads which can be used to show the frames, is also available. - For further information, contact Brulimar on 0161 872 0190.
