A new contact lens material could lead to an increase in comfort levels for wearers, believes its manufacturer Bausch+Lomb (B+L).
Developed to reduce CL dropout rates, Hypergel was said to have addressed many of the issues relating to comfort and has been rolled out across B+L’s Biotrue one day portfolio.
B+L professional affairs consultant Wendy Sethi said: ‘This new material has the potential to impact dramatically on dropout rates. We know we are winning the market growth challenge when we combine comfort with good vision.
‘Silicone hydrogel was introduced in 1999 and has solved some of the barriers to CL wear but not all of them. It certainly has high oxygen transmissibility but for some there is still an issue with comfort. The attraction of lipid deposits can sometimes be an issue too.’
