Bausch+Lomb will introduce a multifocal design of its Hypergel one-day contact lens early next month.
Biotrue ONEday for Presbyopia brings together the benefits of its Hypergel material and a three zone multifocal design which, the firm claimed, meant no compromise of optical clarity at any distance. This, it said, fitted in with the needs of the modern wearer whose near and mid vision needs are increased through the use of smartphones and tablet computers.
B+L said its Hypergel material works like the eye’s own tears to help retain the same moisture level as the eye allowing comfortable wear throughout the day. Biotrue ONEday for Presbyopia also blocks UV helping to prevent age related eye conditions and is breathable offering wearers a health, white eye option.
For practices and patients the lens also offer opportunities said B+L. One in four of all daily disposable wearers are now over 40 offering new potential multifocal wearers. Research shows that 70 per cent of presbyopes say near and intermediate vision is a priority but over 30 per cent of multifocal wearers experience blurry vision or dryness. Biotrue ONEday for Presbyopes is easy to fit, said B+L and addresses those concerns offering the option for older wearers to stay in contact lenses longer. It said the lens was ideally suited to emerging presbyopes or presbyopic patients currently using ready readers.
