The charity Blind Veterans UK launched a special VE Day 80 celebration wall on its website for supporters to leave messages for blind veterans and remind them that they are not forgotten.
‘Today is the 80th anniversary of VE Day – the day that light returned to Europe after six terrible years of war. We are extremely thankful to all the brave men and women who won our freedom in 1945,’ the charity said.
To further commemorate the anniversary, 13 of the charity’s veterans shared their moving memories from VE Day under the themes ‘Celebrations across the UK’, ‘Women at war’, ‘Remnants of a brutal war’ and ‘The battle continued’.
In a dedicated VE Day 80 area, supporters were invited to explore video interviews, audio clips and artwork by blind veterans, along with an exhibition in collaboration with War Horse Illustrator Martin Impey.
