Birmingham Optical Group has donated the latest Nidek Fundus Camera, the AFC-210 to the Oxford Centre for Diabetes Endocrinology & Metabolism (OCDEM).
The camera will enable researchers to work on diabetic retinopathy and the effect of pancreatic transplantation on diabetic retinopathy pathology.
Non-clinical researchers will be able to obtain high resolution images for use in the development of techniques in the fight against retinopathy.
Birmingham Optical Group's CEO Chris Tyler commented: 'The importance to patients for ongoing research into diabetic retinopathy can be seen from the stories on www.diabetes-stories.com. Early detection and treatment is essential. It is hoped that the donation of the AFC-210 will facilitate this.'
