Local MP for Redcar Ian Swales visited Campbell & McDearmid Optometrists in Redcar last week.

He heard about some of the community eye care services currently being offered at the practice.

Optometrist Faye McDearmid said: ‘Many common causes of sight loss such as macular degeneration, glaucoma, cataracts and diabetic retinopathy can be detected before you notice a reduction in your vision, and often the earlier they are detected the better the chance of successful treatment or management.

‘We are most grateful to our patients who participated in the day by sharing their experiences of treatment and management within the local enhanced service schemes.’

LOCSU optical lead Zoe Richmond, who also attended the visit as a member of Tees Local Optical Committee, said: ‘Tees LOC are committed to continually improve community eye health services for patients. South Tees CCG and their commissioning support unit have worked closely with Tees LOC over recent years, as a result local optometrists are able to provide improved services to their patients; looking after patients who in the past would have needed to go along to the hospital for management.

‘I was delighted to see a number of patients come along on the day to meet Ian Swales and share their positive experiences of the community optical services.’
