Charity issues warning over doubling of AMD

The number of people living with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is set to double, with over 3.8 million people predicted to be living with the condition by 2025, according to Help the Aged.

The number of people living with age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is set to double, with over 3.8 million people predicted to be living with the condition by 2025, according to Help the Aged.

New statistics compiled by Research into Ageing, the biomedical research arm of the charity, reveals that the incidences of AMD will increase by 52 per cent by 2025 based on the estimates of the 2.5 million people currently diagnosed with the condition.

The charity is calling on the government to fund research and is also warning that AMD is 'the single greatest health issue facing the UK' today as the country's ageing population continues to live longer than ever before.
