Zacks Kings Cross Eye Clinic in London hosted a mother and toddler week this month to highlight the importance of testing young children.
The clinic aimed to address vision problems suffered by one in five schoolchildren, which it claims are low priorities for both parents and medics.
The clinic's clinical director, Jonathan Cohen, commented: 'Of the 800 children I have tested in the Islington area, approximately 50 per cent have required some form of treatment. The trouble is that they often only present when a teacher or carer thinks there is a problem.'
