College airs strategic plan

Continuing professional development (CPD) has been ranked as a priority objective by the College of Optometrists in its strategic plan for 2011-14.

The College said it would set out to work with regulators, employers and optometrists to make training accessible and identify key topics. Investments will also be made on events, resources and journals for the profession. Its plan stated CET was a part of CPD, but that the College wanted to be recognised as leading the way in the professional development of optometrists.

Other objectives were to provide guidance, assessments, and engage with optometrists during each level of training.

College president Dr Cindy Tromans described the next three years as being 'a time of rapid and important change in health care.
