A new strategic plan has been set out by the College of Optometrists for 2014-2017 highlighting key external factors and giving a series of objectives to increase member support.
It described the plan as setting out what the College wanted to achieve over the next three years during a time of rapid and important change in healthcare.
Developed with Council members, the strategic plan is built on the results of the College’s recent member survey and priorities developed at a two-day strategic planning meeting.
Key objectives comprised ensuring that membership was valuable to optometrists and an asset to their employers, providing and promoting high quality services and support for members to develop their individual clinical practice and to influence policy and decision makers in healthcare delivery in the UK countries by showing how optometrists can improve the quality of eye care. Lastly, to make people aware that they should look after their eyes and of the important role optometrists play in maintaining or improving sight.
