College encourages training with OptPE award

The College of Optometrists has announced it will award the Optometric Practice Educator (OptPE) affix to the first optometrists that complete their new supervisor training.

OptPE affix award has been made available to all full and associate College members who have completed the required training, reflected on their practical experience of supervision and undertaken a College supervisory peer review, with a certificate presented at the annual general meeting on April 29th by the College president, Dr Gillian Ruddock.

Additional changes have also been made to the Educational Training Requirements, including that: newly qualified registrants can supervise (no two-year wait); other ophthalmic professions will be supported to supervise within their scope of practice, and all who supervise must be trained and supported.
