Conditions imposed on DO

Dispensing optician Sean Michael Blain has been placed on conditional registration for three years by a GOC fitness to practise committee.

The panel alleged Blain, on two occasions when applying for retention, failed to declare a conviction for drink driving and police investigations into a road rage incident which led to a caution for possession of a knife, blade or sharply pointed article in a public place. In addition, the committee also alleged Blain was sent home from work on March 31 2011 after he was challenged by a colleague over his fitness to carry out his duties.

The committee said it did not doubt that individuals could and do turn their lives around, but harboured no illusions that this process was necessarily smooth or without setbacks. It added that serious concerns existed about the registrant and the implications they could have for the safety of the public.
