Independent optical chain Conlons has sponsored a balloon release to remember World War 1 at Gilded Hollins School in Leigh, Wigan.
Organisers provided each child with a balloon tagged with their name to release. The one that is found furthest away and handed in will win a pair of children's designer sunglasses.
Lyndsay Johnson, marketing director of Conlons Opticians, said: ‘We were delighted to sponsor the Gilded Hollins balloon release to remember World War 1 and it was an amazing sight watching all the balloons go up into the sky.
‘At Conlons we really enjoy supporting the local community and being involved in local events, it was great to see how excited the children were and to see them learning about such an important historical event too. We are looking forward to finding out who the winner is and how far their balloon has travelled.’
