Conlons in the classroom

Pupils of St Margaret's (CE) High School in Aigburth, Liverpool had a science lesson with a difference recently when the local Conlons practice held a class workshop on 'The Miracle of Sight'.

Ian Hechle, practice manager of Conlons Barrow-in-Furness, Cumbria, and contact lens optician Steve Akib from Heswall and Shotton hosted the workshop for the 11 and 12 year-olds. 'The purpose of our visit was not only to aid the pupils with their education but to help them to relate the theoretical skills they have learnt to real-life case studies such as eye disorders and their cures,' explains Steve Akib. The pupils were taught about the functions and purposes of the eye and tested their own eyes for colour blindness. The importance of regular eye examinations was also stressed to the pupils. Conlons plans to continue visiting schools in the North West, where many of its branches are located.
