The Cooper Companies has completed its acquisition of Sauflon Pharmaceuticals for approximately $1.2bn.

It said the investment gave CooperVision the ability to offer the world’s most extensive range of daily disposable contact lens options.

‘We’re approaching the daily disposables category with a new, multi-tier model. By adding the Sauflon portfolio to our already-strong MyDay and Proclear brand choices, we’re bringing forward multiple contact lens families designed and marketed for distinct wearer segments,’ said Daniel McBride, president of CooperVision.

‘This approach to the market provides practitioners the ability to offer a daily disposable lens for every eye and every budget, which should further accelerate both practice growth and category momentum.’

A statement added that global daily disposable market has been growing at 10 per cent and that Clariti – now part of the CooperVision range – was the only brand of daily disposable silicone hydrogel lenses that spans the entire vision correction spectrum.

McBride added: ‘The Sauflon acquisition is one further component in our commitment to be the best possible business partner for eye care practitioners around the world. This goes beyond providing innovative products, services and support. Our teams are stepping up to help customers better capitalise on new market opportunities such as the migration to daily disposable wear.’

ECPs were told to continue working with their current CooperVision and Sauflon representatives, support resources and ordering mechanisms until advised otherwise.
