CooperVision sales up 10% in first quarter

Cooper Companies reported strong first quarter 2012 sales up 11 per cent on the same period at $326.1m, beating estimates.

Sales from the contact lens division CooperVision were 10 per cent higher year on year at $268.9m and revenues were higher for all types of lenses. Multifocals were by far the best performer, rising 26 per cent, with toric lenses up 9 per cent, single-use sphere lenses up 10 per cent and non-single use sphere lenses up 8 per cent.

The company added that on a regional basis EMEA and Asia-Pacific revenues were up 7 per cent and 13 per cent, with the Americas at 11 per cent. Revenues for silicone hydrogel rose sharply by 40 per cent to $86.9m, with Cooper stating that it was benefiting from strong demand for its Biofinity toric lenses.
