D&A scoops top training prize

Dollond & Aitchison has won a national training award for workplace training and development.
It received the Training Excellence Award for outstanding achievements in workplace training and personal development at the National Training Awards 2004.
D&A beat 300 firms across all industry sectors to win the award. Since 1999 D&A has invested almost £1m in its Optical Advisor programme, resulting in lower staff turnover and better qualified staff.
'We believe our training to be the best in the UK optical retailing and the success of the programme is reflected in our customer feedback,' said John Mumford, HR director. 'We have also seen a 20 per cent drop in staff turnover since the programme was introduced.'
The National Training Awards are run by UK Skill on behalf of the Department for Education and Skills, and started in 1986.
